11 or 2?

11 or 2?

My husband and I are still *patiently* trying to teach our kids to turn the shower on and off themselves. It’s been a challenge, but we’re slowly making progress. The other day I had the idea to use a clock face as a reference for how far to turn the cold tap: “Turn the cold tap to 11 O’clock” I instructed my daughter. She was thrilled with this idea – it was a reference she could remember, which was great, because she’s all up for doing as much for herself as possible.

Later that evening, I proudly shared my new strategy with my husband. He returned a confused look and said “11 o’clock?? I’ve been telling them 2 o’clock!” Perplexed by how different our instructions were (as well as our tolerance for hot water), off to the bathroom we went to determine who was right, and who was wrong.

It turns out my husband was lining up the middle of the C with 2 o’clock, whilst I was lining the top of the C up with 11 o’clock, which ended up being exactly the same position! 11 or 2 – we were both right!

It was an amusing reminder of just how different we all are. Whilst our problem-solving process may involve different steps – or even a different result – neither are wrong, better, or worse. And our kids didn’t burn themselves in the shower – a win all-round in my book!
