SPECIAL FEATURE: Northern Exposure Festival 2011


Northcote’s 2011 Northern Exposure Festival is bringing the gallery to the street, with fifty artists collaborating with over thirty local businesses for a two week art extravaganza. This year’s festival will comprise of three main types of art displays: High Views: shop window installations; High Events: art related workshops, tours and events running throughout the festival; and Small Works, Small Spaces: a new category in this year’s festival, consisting of temporary and permanent displays along the main street and in unexpected places. JUNE 2011 – Melburnin'


Art often acts a social snapshot, historically recording our reaction to specific events and life in general. Current Melbourne exhibitions such as Black and White: documenting Indigenous Australia, Eugene von GuĂ©rard: Nature Revealed, Albert Tucker’s Images of Modern Evil and Mannequin play an important role – artistically and historically – by providing social, political and environmental commentary on past and present Australian culture.
